IPOB calls on the Eastern Consultative Assembly [ECA] to demand Enugu Police Command to immediately release Biafrans activists they arrested

Biafra: Police confirms arrest of 11 IPOB members in Enugu

ENUGU - The Enugu State Police Command on Tuesday, confirmed the arrest of some family members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, along the Independence layout axis of the State metropolis.

The Biafra activists were nabbed by the Police shortly after the disruption of a summit convened by the Eastern Consultative Assembly held yesterday at the Universal Hotel.

In a statement released to newsmen by the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Ebere Amarizu, stated that only eleven IPOB members were arrested.

Part of the statement read that “no fewer than eleven persons suspected to be members of the outlawed Biafran group were nabbed by the Enugu State Police Command operatives today 27/2/12 in the morning around Universal hotel axis of the Independent layout Enugu.

“They were nabbed based on intelligence information gathered which guided the operatives on the successful operations carried out.

“Those arrested are helping the operatives in their investigations in relation to their alleged nefarious activities and will be arraigned properly in a law court after investigations are concluded.”

However, one of the arrested Biafra activists who spoke to our Correspondent on Wednesday insisted that contrary to the claim by the State Police that only eleven activists were apprehended yesterday, they were actually twelve in number whom would be arraigned this morning before the State Magistrate Court.

“We were twelve people in number whom were arrested yesterday by the Police as we proceeded along presidential road, Enugu.

“Maybe the Police have not carried out a proper counting but am sure we were twelve in number. They told us we shall be brought before the court this morning,” he said.

He also added that they have not committed any known offence against the law that could warrant the brutal attack and arrest launched against them by the Police, hoping that the court would grant them bail.
